After plenty of leaks over the past month, the Motorola Moto Z2 Play is finally “official”. Given that details pertaining to the device have been plastered all over the internet, the specs rundown for the Moto Z2 Play shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

The smartphone features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED FHD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor. You will receive either 3GB or 4GB of RAM — if you select 32GB of storage, you’ll get the former, while opting for 64GB of internal storage will get you the latter. A 12MP f/1.7 camera is found on the back of the Moto Z2 Play, while a 5MP wide-angle f/2.2 camera is up front for selfie duties. Other features include a microSD slot (supports up to 2TB), USB Type-C connectivity, 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.2, and the device runs Android 7.1.1.

One of the biggest changes is that the device is now thinner than before. The downside, however, is that battery capacity takes a big hit, falling from 3510 mAh to just 3000 mAh. While the battery life of the Moto Z2 Play will still likely be excellent, it will come nowhere close to the lengthy runtimes that we expect from its predecessor.

The downgraded battery means that Moto Z2 Play owners will probably be relying more heavily on Moto Mods if they want to extended runtimes. Luckily, Motorola has all of its based covered there. The company is announcing four new Moto Mods this year that include the TurboPower Pack, which incorporates a 3490 mAh battery for $79.99.

There’s also the JBL SoundBoost 2, which replaces the original SoundBoost with has a more premium design and a water repellant coating. It will be priced at $79.99. There’s also a new Moto Style Shell that incorporates wireless charging for $39.99.

However, the most intriguing new Moto Mod comes in the form of the $79.99 GamePad. This accessory includes its own 1035 mAh battery and features dual control sticks, a D-pad and four primary buttons on its face

As for the Moto Z2 Play itself, we have two bits of bad news to deliver for you. The price of the smartphone has jumped from $449 to $499 for the 32GB model and it will be exclusive (at least initially) on Verizon Wireless when it launches this Summer.
