OnePlus 6 Flagship Android Smartphone Hits Geekbench With Beefy Single And Multi-Core Scores

Back at the beginning of the year, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau talked about the OnePlus 6, saying at the time that work had begun on the phone and that it will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip. That is the same mobile processor that powers Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ handsets in the US. Ahead of the phone's launch, however, some benchmarks emerged that show the OnePlus 6 outperforming Samsung's flagship handsets.

Before we go any further, the standard disclaimer applies—leaked benchmarks are not a reliable to draw any conclusions about a device's final performance, for a variety of reasons. That said, we often see benchmarks on Geekbench for products that have not yet been released, and it is not uncommon for the eventual shipping hardware to be line line with early numbers. But you never know, so take things with a grain of salt.


Okay, on to the numbers. As seen in the screen capture above, the OnePlus 6 (indicated by "NS NS P7819," reported to be the prototype designation) is armed with an 8-core Qualcomm processor clocked at .1.77GHz and 6GB of memory, while running Android 8.1 Oreo. With those parts and features in play, it scored 2,535 in Geekbench's single-core test and 8,632 in Geekbench's multi-score benchmark.

Those are some impressive scores, and if we plot them on graph with our own scores for other phones we have tested, it comes up in second place. Here's a look:


Bear in mind that we have not tested the OnePlus 6, we are just punching the leaked Geekbench scores into our own ongoing database. If we are to assume the scores are legitimate, the OnePlus 6 is faster than Samsung's Galaxy S9+, at least in this test, in both single-core and multi-core performance. What is really interesting is the jump in single-core performance—the leaked OnePlus 6 score is 20 percent faster, despite both phones rocking the same CPU and RAM allocation. It's a much tighter race in multi-core performance, with the OnePlus 6 edging out the Galaxy S9+ by 2.3 percent.

If these scores hold up and are indicative of performance in other benchmarks, it will be an interesting battle between the OnePlus 6 and other flagship phones when it releases, presumably next month.
