OnePlus 7 Pro Flagship Phone Confirmed To Rock Ultra-Fast UFS 3.0 Storage

OnePlus has been talking up the unreleased OnePlus 7 Pro, though most of the chatter up to this point has been centered on the display—Pete Lau, CEO at OnePlus, has promised it will be "super smooth and very crisp." But in addition to having a fancy OLED panel, we now know the OnePlus 7 Pro will also feature faster UFS 3.0 storage.

This was also confirmed by Lau, who stated on Twitter that UFS 3.0 storage on the OnePlus 7 Pro will "give you [a] next level #fastandsmooth experience."
The whole "fast and smooth" thing is a theme of the OnePlus 7 Pro. Lau had previously alluded to a faster refresh rate than the standard 60Hz that is found on most smartphones. While he was unwilling to get into specifics, he told The Verge that the display on the OnePlus 7 Pro costs three times as much as the displays on previous models.

"The first time I saw it myself, I was stunned," Lau said.

Rumors have pointed to the OnePlus 7 Pro having a 90Hz refresh rate, which would put it in gaming phone territory. For example, ASUS's ROG Phone has a 90Hz refresh rate. It might even be higher than that. Razer's first- and second-generation gaming phones both have a 120Hz refresh rate.

Whatever the case might be, it's going to be a faster display than what's found on the average non-gaming smartphone. We also anticipate the OnePlus 7 Pro having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with perhaps 10GB or even 12GB of RAM, up from 6GB on the regular OnePlus 6.

Combined with UFS 3.0 storage, the OnePlus 7 Pro is poised to be a speedy flagship in every sense. Leaked benchmarks have bore that out—over at Geekbench, there is a database entry for a OnePlus 7 Pro that shows it hanging with a Galaxy S10+.

The one caveat with all this is that the OnePlus 7 Pro probably won't be cheap. OnePlus has made a name for itself by offering high-end features at competitive price points, but with the level of hardware and features packed inside the OnePlus 7 Pro, particularly the display (which earned an A+ grade from DisplayMate), the expectation is that it will carry a premium price tag.

OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 7 Pro on May 14.
