Samsung Channels Pixar, ‘Portal’ With Prototype Speakers And Curved Soundbar Lineup

Make no mistake, Samsung fully intends to ride the whole "curved" craze as far as it will go, which so far has been applied to smartphones, televisions, and soundbars; the latter of which will see an expanded lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. That's not all -- Samsung also intends to roll out a couple of concept speakers, one of which looks like the lovechild of Eve from Wall-E and those guns in Portal.

That's the stand-type model (WAM7500); there's also a movable model (WAM6500) that will have you wanting to sing, "I'm a little teapot, short and stout" whenever you look at it. However, there's more to these speakers than funky aesthetics.

Both speakers were developed in part at Samsung's new state-of-the-art audio lab in Valencia, California and use premium materials in the construction. But what's really unique about them is the utilization of "Ring Radiator," a proprietary audio technology that allows sound to flow in a 360-degree radius while maintaining a perfect balance between treble and bass, Samsung says.

The smaller WAM6500 sports a built-in battery and handle, so you can take it with you to your vacation home or simply from room to room. And like the WAM7500, it will "seamlessly" connect to your TV, soundbar, and mobile devices.

"We know how much people love music and that’s why we are expanding our portfolio to bring high-quality, wireless audio into the home," said Jurack Chae, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics. "With the new WAM7500/6500 people can enjoy a vibrant sound wherever they are, while our new Curved Soundbars perfectly complement the TV viewing experience."

Samsung didn't say what price points these things might check in at, though those kinds of details might be revealed at CES -- stay tuned!
