Late last month, we heard reports that Samsung would make its Galaxy S10 5G smartphone available starting on April 5th. Today, Samsung confirmed that information and said that the launch is indeed on track for this Friday in South Korea.

It should be noted that the first 5G network became operational in South Korea on December 1st, 2018 and interestingly enough, the backbone of the network is comprised of Samsung’s own 5G networking hardware. Samsung claims that when the Galaxy S10 5G is operating on a supported 5G network, users will experience speeds up to 20 times faster than what’s possible with current generation 4G LTE networks (or 5G E for that matter).

Although we know for certain that the Galaxy S10 5G will be arriving in the United States this quarter, we don’t have an exact date nailed down. However, Verizon has made it clear that its 5G Ultra Wideband network will go live in Chicago and Minneapolis on April 11th, while AT&T’s mobile 5G network is already operational in a handful of cities across the country. The smartphone will be available on both networks.

The Galaxy S10 5G has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, and it has a total of six cameras (two up front, four on the back). Versions of the smartphone that will ship in South Korea and other global markets will come equipped with Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 SoC, while phones designed for the U.S. market will come with the Snapdragon 855 SoC. Whichever SoC you receive, it will be paired with a maximum of 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

To help fuel the massive display and 5G modem, the Galaxy S10 5G comes with a beefy 4500 mAh battery that can either be recharged wirelessly (Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 support) or via USB-C with Power Delivery 3.0. In addition, like the other members of the Galaxy S10 family, it supports Wireless PowerShare technology to top off another smartphone or wireless earbuds (among other accessories).

Samsung says that the Galaxy S10 5G will be available in Majestic Black, Royal Gold, Crown Silver, however, pricing has not yet been officially announced at this time.
