Samsung Unleashes Data Center Enterprise SSD Lineup In Capacities Up To 3.84TB

Samsung has become somewhat of a household name in the consumer solid state drive market—between its Pro and Evo drives, the company offers some of the fastest and best bang-for-buck options out there. Its newest SSDs, however, are aimed at data center customers and consist of several new models aimed at reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).

The new Data Center SSD solutions consist of the 860 DCT, 883 DCT, 983 DCT, and 983 ZET, each one "engineered to meet the evolving needs of small and medium businesses (SMBs)," which essentially entails faster sustained performance, higher capacities, and of course enterprise-grade reliability and security.

"Samsung’s Data Center SSD portfolio provides SMBs with a future-proof lineup to fit their unique business needs in the incredibly diverse market," said Richard Leonarz, director of product marketing for Samsung Electronics. "Samsung leveraged years of memory product engineering expertise to deliver a simple, yet optimized SSD lineup that addresses today’s super computer trends."

The 860 DCT SSD series is designed for servers that need sustained performance for read-intensive workloads. These drives are meant to replace mechanical hard drives and are offered in three different capacities—960GB, 1.92TB, and 3.84TB. These are 2.5-inch SSDs with up to 4GB of onboard LPDDR4 memory. They're rated to deliver sequential read and write performance of up to 550MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively.

Samsung's 883 DCT SSD series is built for servers used to safeguard critical data, including power loss protection and end-to-end data protection. They offer a high QoS under the SATA interface and are available in capacities ranging from 240GB on up to 3.84TB.

Both the 983 DCT and 938 ZET are faster NVMe drives, the former available in U.2 and M.2 form factors and the latter available in HHHL (half height, half lengh).

The 983 DCT is available in 960GB and 1.92TB capacities and deliver sequential read and write performance of up to 3,000MB/s and 1,900MB/s, respectively. Meanwhile, the 983 ZET comes in 480GB and 960GB capacities, both rated to deliver up to 3,400MB/s of sequential read and up to 3,000MB/s of sequential write performance.

All of the new drivers are available now direct from Samsung. They're each backed by a 5-year warranty.
