Samsung Galaxy S9 And S9 Plus ISOCELL Camera Image Sensor Details Leak
Details on the coming Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones from Samsung has been leaking frequently over the last few months as production ramps for the official launch. The latest leak has given up some details on the ISOCELL mobile imaging sensor that Samsung will be using inside the smartphones.
The sensor is said to use a 3-stack design that will give the camera in the smartphone some nice features users will enjoy. A stacked design allows the sensor data to be exported from the image assembly at a higher rate. That faster transport will allow the ISOCELL sensor to record super-slow-motion images at up to 480 frames per second in full HD resolution.
The stacked design would also allow, in theory at least, the recording of video at up to 960 fps in 720p resolution. Presumably this super slow-motion camera tech would be found on all versions of the Galaxy S9, but there is some concern that the feature might be limited to the Exynos-powered versions that won't land in the U.S. In the U.S., buyers of the S9 and S9 Plus will only have access to Snapdragon 845-powered devices.
Other tidbits tipped for the new camera sensor include an increase in the responsiveness of the phase detection pixels that are used for image focusing. Presumably that would mean the camera sensor would be able to focus faster crisp and clear shots of fast moving subjects. Rumors have suggested that the Galaxy S9 Plus will possibly have a dual lens camera, although the new leak sheds no additional light on that possibility.
As for the launch date, a rumor earlier this month tipped that the device will ship on March 16 after a debut on February 26. Both the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus received their FCC certifications in late December 2017.
