Samsung Gifts Limited Edition Galaxy Note 8 To All PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympians And Paralympians

Samsung has been known to release special edition handsets on occasion, and is seizing the opportunity once more with the Olympic Winter Games just around the corner. Getting in the Olympic spirit, Samsung has unveiled the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition Galaxy Note 8, and is giving 4,000 of them away to all Olympians, as well as staff members who are working the event.

"Throughout our 20-year legacy as an Olympic partner, Samsung has showcased our support of the Olympic Movement by helping spread the Olympic Spirit and enhance connections through our latest technological innovations and immersive experiences," said Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics. "We’re proud to provide the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition to all athletes in an effort to help them to stay connected, capture and share one of the most memorable moments of their lives."

This is a neat thing Samsung is doing. Sure, it makes for great promotion, and in that regard is a self-serving marketing move. But no matter how you slice it, Samsung's decision to gift these limited edition phones to all participating Olympians and staff members is admirable—we are sure those receiving one will be appreciative. Samsung is also gifting the phones to every Paralympian at the Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.

"Each Paralympian will receive the Galaxy Note8 along with cases that feature the Paralympic Games logo and be exposed to how breakthrough mobile technologies can help make the digital world more accessible for those with disabilities," Samsung added.

Like the regular Galaxy Note 8, these limited edition models feature a bezel-free 6.3-inch 'Infinity' display with a Super AMOLED panel and 2960x1400 resolution. We presume the internal bits are the same as well, highlighted by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and 6GB of RAM.

Unlike the regular handsets, the limited editions models sport a shiny white back glass toe celebrate the winter games, along with gold Olympic rings and a gold accented S Pen. In addition, Samsung has pre-loaded PyeongChang 2018 themed wallpapers, along with a handful of apps.
