Samsung’s Galaxy Fold Showcased In Mechanized Synchronistic Folding Glory
In the leadup to the smartphone’s retail release, Samsung has posted another short video showing numerous Galaxy Fold prototypes “working out” on some exercise machines. OK, but seriously, Samsung has a number of the devices attached to machines that open and close the display over and over to test its durability.
Seeing all these Galaxy Folds moving in synch is bit therapeutic, and the background music definitely helps. One thing that we should mention is that the lighting in the video doesn’t allow you to see much of the “crease” in the display when it is fully unfolded. However, we can just barely make out the crease in the 0:19 to 0:23 segment of this short clip.
If you recall, a previous hands-on video showing a prototype Galaxy Fold showed that the crease was very visible in everyday use. We don’t know if that was simply a byproduct of it being an early build unit or if Samsung’s videos are just cleverly masking the appearance of any creases.
The Galaxy Fold’s 7.3-inch QXGA primary display is augmented with a secondary 4.6-inch HD cover display that is usable when the device is folded. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Fold has a capacious 4,380 mAh of battery capacity combined (there are actually two batteries onboard). In addition, there are a total of six cameras available for the user.
Samsung has priced that Galaxy Fold at a staggering $1,980 and it will be going toe-to-toe with the arguably better looking (and much higher priced) Huawei Mate X.
