AMD Radeon Pro W5700 Review: Affordable Navi For Workstations

AMD Radeon Pro W5700 - SPECviewperf 13, IndigoBench, And Blender

Next up we have some numbers from SPECviewperf v13, the latest version of the venerable SPEC benchmark as of this article's publication. The entire test suite has been overhauled for this version, and it includes a new extensible architecture that's designed to make SVP easier to customize and adapt for a variety of workloads. The test also includes new medical and energy datasets, updated classic viewsets, and includes a test for Autodesk Showcase.

Workstation Graphics Performance

SPECviewperf includes a variety of tests, which produce significantly different framerates, so we've sorted them into three groups to make the results a bit easier to read. Please note the legends at the bottom of each chart, which designate the application or viewset used...

The new Radeon Pro W5700 performed extremely well (relatively speaking) in all of the various SPECviewperf 13 tests. The Navi-based Radeon Pro W5700 outperformed the Vega-based Radeon Pro WX 8200 across the board, sometimes by a wide margin. The Radeon Pro W5700 also outruns the Quadro RTX 4000 in 7 of the 9 tests -- it's only in the Creo and 3DStudioMax tests that the Quadro comes out ahead.
IndigoBench
GPU Rendering Performance
IndigoBench is based on Indigo 4's advanced rendering engine and offers both CPU and GPU rendering modes for its two built-in models. The standalone benchmark is available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux and outputs results in M/Samples per second.

The Radeon Pro W5700 clearly outpaces the Radeon Pro WX 8200 here, in both models, but it can't quite catch the Quadro RTX 4000. The delta separating the two cards with the more taxing "Bedroom" model, however, is quite small.
Blender v2.80
GPU Rendering Benchmark
Blender is a free and open source 3D creation suite that can handle everything from modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation. It has a built-in benchmarking tool that will track the time it takes to complete rendering a particular model. We used a GPU-focused BMW model for these tests here...

All three of the cards we tested performed similarly in this Blender benchmark, with only a few seconds separating the highest and lowest times. Still, the Radeon Pro W5700 lands right in the middle of the pack, just barely outpacing the Quadro RTX 4000.
