NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Shoot-Out: ASUS Strix And Zotac AMP Extreme

GTX 1070 Ti Shoot-Out - Shadow Of War And Ghost Recon Wildlands

Monolith’s surprisingly fun Orc-slaying title Middle Earth: Shadow of War, delivers a ton of visual fidelity even at its lower quality settings. So, to maximize the eye-candy on these high-end graphics cards, we used the game’s Ultra quality preset and ran the benchmark routine at a couple of resolutions, topping out at 4K -- or, excuse us, 3840x2160 for the sticklers out there. All of the game's graphics-related options were enabled, along with Temporal AA and Camera Blur. We should note this is the latest installment in the successful game series and our review of Shadow of War is right here if you'd like to catch up on the happenings in Middle Earth.

Due to their similar clocks, the ASUS and Zotac cards put up the exact same performance in our Shadow of War tests.

Render time performance between the ASUS and Zotac cards are roughly equal as well, with Founder Edition 1070 clocking in just slightly slower render and frametimes.

DirectX 11 Gaming Performance
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is a tactical shooter, set in an open-world environment. The game is played from a third-person perspective, though there is an optional first person view when aiming certain guns. Players are members of the fictional "Ghosts", an elite special-operations unit of the United States Army. We tested Wildlands -- which is a DX11 title -- with all of the in-game graphical options cranked up to their maximum values, at both 1440P and 4K...

Here in the more demanding Ghost Recon Wildlands, the cards are pushed fairly hard. Getting 40-FPS and below is not a recommended performance window for such a fast-paced game, so dialing things back is advisable, but relative performance still shows the Asus and Zotac cards with a sizable lead over the 1070 Founder's Edition.
