OnePlus 7T Review: Fast, Premium And A Fantastic Android Value

OnePlus 7T Review: Web Browsing And General Compute Benchmarks

For our firsts set of tests, we're using the JetStream benchmark to evaluate Javascript performance and Basemark's Web Test 3.0 for a more comprehensive, mixed-media web performance analysis, which includes HTML5 rendering. Here we'll primarily determine how the OnePlus 7T, with its 8GB of RAM and Snapdragon 855+ SoC handles this specific workload with the Android Chrome web browser. All tests were performed at the phone's default FHD+ 2400x1080 display resolution with the display operating at 90Hz, though lower resolutions and refresh rates are available as well...

JavaScript and Browser Testing

In these two browser-based benchmarks, the OnePlus 7T performs exceptionally well. In the JetStream benchmark, only the ROG Phone II Ultimate was faster and in the more comprehensive Web 3.0 test, the OnePlus 7T took the pole position, besting every other device we've tested to date.
GeekBench
Synthetic CPU Benchmark

In the GeekBench test, we're stressing only CPU cores in a handset (not graphics), with both single and multi-threaded workloads. The test is comprised of encryption processing, image compression, HTML5 parsing, physics calculations, and other general purpose compute processing.

Geekbench tells an interesting story. Here, the OnePlus 7T is easily the fasted Android-based device in the stack when running the single-thread benchmark, though it still couldn't catch the iPhones. In the multi-threaded test, however, the OnePlus 7T drops down a few rungs and competes with devices like the Galaxy S10e and LG G8 ThinQ. That said, the deltas separating the higher-end phones in the multi-threaded test are relatively small and the OnePlus 7T still performed well.

Futuremark PCMark For Android
General Purpose Pocket Computing Performance Metrics
Futuremark's PCMark for Android is an excellent suite of tests that we recommend for benchmarking performance of a handset in a wide range of tasks, for things like image and video editing, as well as lighter-duty, everyday workloads such as email and web browsing. When you see the test running live, it's clear the scripted application tests are carefully selected and tuned to make use of the mobile platforms involved in a very controlled way.

Chalk up another overall victory for the OnePlus 7T. In the individual web browsing and video editing tests, the OnePlus 7T trailed a few of the top-end Android device out there, but in the photo editing and writing tests, the OnePlus 7T is among the best and its overall score lands it at the top of the heap. The fast storage, 8GB of LPDDR4x memory and speedy Snapdragon 855+ are a potent combination here.

AnTuTu 7
Platform Benchmarks

AnTuTu’s latest benchmark returns a number of metrics ranked with somewhat nebulous scores, rather than frame rates or time to complete. We tested with the latest version of AnTuTu across an all Android platform group. AnTuTu returns four top level performance metric results that we are including here: CPU, RAM, 3D, UX (or User Experience), along with a total score.

The OnePlus 7T falters a bit in AnTuTu 7's memory benchmark, but in all of the other categories the phone offers best-of-class performance, and overall, it scores another victory. The OnePlus 7T led the pack once again in this benchmark.
