Samsung 10nm 32GB DDR4 SoDIMMs For Gaming Laptops Enter Mass Production

Samsung has announced that mass production has kicked off for its new 32GB DDR4 SoDIMM for laptop computers. The RAM is based on 10nm-class production technology and is aimed directly at delivering PC-grade desktop performance for on-the-go gamers. Samsung says that the new RAM has significantly more capacity, supports higher speeds, and has lower energy consumption than its previous offerings (or its competitors).

Compared to the previous Samsung 16GB SoDIMM RAM based on 20nm-class 8Gb DDR4, the new 32GB modules have twice the capacity and promise to be 11% faster and 39% more energy efficient (contributing to longer battery life).

Samsung uses 16 of its new 16Gb DDR4 DRAM chips with eight chips mounted on the front and eight on the back of the SoDIMM. The new RAM promises speeds of up to 2,666 Mbps. On the power consumption front, Samsung says that a 64GB laptop using a pair of the new 32GB modules would consume less than 4.6W in active mode and less than 1.4W in idle mode. Those power consumption numbers are over 39% less in active mode and over 25% less in idle mode compared to current gaming laptops fitted with 16GB modules.
